“Desire: The Starting Point of All Achievement – Chapter 2
The First Step Toward Riches
The very first question I must ask myself is: “What do I truly desire?” I cannot attain my goals and live the life of my dreams if I am not first totally clear about what I desire. But desire alone will not bring into fruition what I want. Desire is essential and powerful yet it is just the first step. Whether or not my dreams are realized depends upon what I do with the desire that is burning in my belly.
My second question I must ask myself is: Am I willing to do whatever it takes to fulfill my desire? Am I willing to burn all bridges that lead me away from my desired goal? It is one thing to have a desire, to feel it tugging at your heartstrings. Yet it is something else that keeps you moving forward when the inevitable doubts and life struggles impede your forward motion.
My deepest desire is to help men and women their bodies, their relationships and their lives heal through love. I see myself connecting with the leading relationship experts and coaches, sharing the stage, and fully expressing what I have learned. Since I was not brought up to shine in the spotlight, it has always been more comfortable for me to work in a secure environment. As a professor, I worked in a safe cocoon, surrounded by what felt like a second family. We knew each other for many years and I was able to relax and be my authentic self.
Leaving the security of my college teaching position has opened me up to a whole new realm of experience. Letting go of that safety net, I spent several years retreating into my own private world working as a solo practitioner counseling individuals and couples. But this dream has been stirring within me. I listen to leading relationship experts, motivational speakers, and teachers, like Michael Dlouhy, who say “It’s not your fault” and “You CAN do it.”
As I immerse myself in reading and absorbing the words of Napoleon Hill in Think and Grow Rich, Wallace D. Wattels in The Science of Getting Rich written in 1910, and the more modern day Principles of Success by Jack Canfield and Success in 10 Steps by Michael Dlouhy, I believe I am finally getting it. My thoughts are powerful, my desire is essential, and now I understand that I must hold onto a vision of my desire already having been manifested, taking continual steps toward its realization, and trusting that it is materializing into physical form regardless of the appearance of my current physical reality.
Every great achievement has begun with a thought, fueled with desire and a clear vision of attaining the results desired, along with the necessary discipline and hard work required to consistently take small steps in the direction of the desired goal. We cannot control the timing or the manifestation of the attainment of our desires. We can only control our thoughts, our visions and our actions. And then we have to let go and let God or the universal source energy do its part in the fulfillment of our dreams.
Thank you for this ongoing opportunity to fill my mind with the thoughts that continue to fuel my desires and keep me focused on my dreams.
