I looked at the title the 30 day mental cleanse and I immediately thought of some form of shock therapy. The 30 day mental cleanse sounded like some barbaric torture.
Yet the email that I received was about blocking out negativity and reading a book ‘think and grow rich’ one chapter at a time.
That didn’t sound like torture at all. Perhaps the homework of writing one lesson for each chapter might be a bit time consuming.
I read on further and there was something about self talk and drinking plenty of water. Yeh not to bad either. The thing that really caught my eye was the last sentence. It said that the founders of the 30 day mental cleanse Michael and Linda Dlouhy will believe in me until I can believe in myself.
I didn’t need complete strangers believing in me, I already believed in myself. Yet it felt kind of nice, reassuring and it made you feel special.
Little did I know that this was the start of the healing process for me.
I had lots of built up anger and blame from a dysfunctional marriage. It was consuming me and had me trapped in a place I really didn’t like.
I was living a life of who do I blame next for my lack of success at everything that I attempted to do. It was like I was caught in a negative cloud. The cloud just kept getting bigger by attracting more negativity.
Of course I didn’t realise this at the time.
So back to the 30 day mental cleanse. It was kind of cool reading the first chapter which was something about a mastermind group and how important that is to your success. Oh by the way this is not the first chapter in the book. There is no actual starting point because the process is ongoing. When we get to chapter 15, the whole book is read over again beginning at chapter one. So it really doesn’t matter where you begin.
This was a bit confusing, how can it all make sense if I start near the end?
As I reflect back it made me feel important to write a lesson about this and then send it to my mentor Michael Dlouhy. He claimed that he read all the lessons. Then he chose six lessons to discuss on an on line interactive call.
The first call was quite exciting. People from all over the world were introduced and they read their lessons for everybody. After each lesson was read Michael asked for thoughts and feedback to the author of the lesson. Often this produced lots of amazing aha moments for people as they clarified their thinking about the chapter.
It was a bit over whelming at first , so I just sat and listened. Michael was encouraging everybody to step up to the plate and provide their opinions. However I didn’t feel ready to contribute just yet.
The thing that caught my attention was this discussion about self talk and how that can bring about positive programming for you.
It went something like ‘you are being programmed every day by the media, negative people and your environment. He went on to say ‘ I’m thinking you can to a better job’.
Ok I thought to myself, it cant hurt. It doesn’t cost me anything and I can do it when I’m walking my dog.
So my 30 day mental cleanse had begun in earnest.
After saying my self talk for 100 times or so on my walk I felt clearer in my head, I certainly know why they said to drink heaps of water. It felt like I had been on a run rather than a walk. Concentrating on your self talk for an hour was thirsty work.
My next post will be about what the 30 day mental cleanse actually is. This is when I realise the power of what I had embarked on.
