What is visualization?
What is visualization and how do you go about becoming good at doing it?
Visualization is about using your imagination to create an idea. It can be in the form of a feeling, a smell, or an image in your mind.
Many people believe that they cannot use visualization in their life.. This is because they believe it to be the ability to see an image in their mind’s eye. When it is blurry or they cant see what they want to see they believe they cant do it?
If you have experienced this please realize it is a process and it takes practice. Don’t be discouraged if you cannot do it immediately. Part of the process is to slow down your mind to the state that it has clarity and you can focus intensely on your thoughts.
Think carefully about all the times you have used visualization in your mind. Some examples are shooting the wining goal at football or basketball. You focus hard an see the ball going through the goals or the basketball ring. The amazing part is when you do this well enough the result is almost just as you saw it happen.
It might be when you are planning a car trip to make sure you have understood the directions correctly. It might be prior to cooking your favorite recipe.
The point is that you are doing it all of the time almost automatically without realizing what you are doing.
There is a school of thought that suggests that by taking control of this ability to use visualization efficiently you can bring about success in your life.
The creative imagination has the capacity to build a picture or a charged up feeling within the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is the decision making part of the brain. It is much larger than the conscious mind. It however just responds to the information presented to it. The subconscious mind uses memory and past experiences to work on any ideas or thoughts that are repeatedly presented to it.
This is where we can play a legitimate trick on it by using our conscious mind the smaller smarter part of our brain to get it to believe what we want to visualize.
If our dominant thoughts are transfixed on what we want and we repeatedly tell our subconscious mind that we already have what we can visualize then it gets to work to make it happen.
What we visualize is based on our ability to imagine and concentrate on extensively. Our thoughts play a big part on our success or failure.
If you think like a winner and see yourself as a winner then more often than not you will behave like a winner and win. To use a sporting analogy you develop a winning culture. Often this is enough to get you over the line in close contests. So this fuels your ability to win and creates an aura which makes others believe that you will win. This of course means that they don’t believe they will win and so they lose.
Learning to visualize does take practice and a concentrated effort. Here are some tips on how to improve your ability to visualize for your success.
